Matt Bomer fans are getting excited about the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey Movie. The debate rages on over who should play the mercurial Mr. Christian Grey. There are countless Facebook and fan pages dedicated to getting Matt Bomer the part.
While Matt himself hasn't commented on whether or not he would accept the role, his White Collar costar Willie Garson has put his two cents in. He tweeted the following
Willie Garson on FSOG: @Mad4fifty We don’t respond well to the insanity of the book and Matt together, and also bothering others of us about either, thx
Bret Easton Ellis, who was originally in the running to be the screenwriter for the film adaptation, lost the job to Kelly Marcel because of comments he made via twitter about Matt Bomer. He stated that Matt could not play the part because he is gay.
There are other candidates for the part of Christian that have fans shouting for their favorites. The other top two contenders are Ian Somerhalder and Henry Cavill. There have been countless polls for people to vote for their dream guy to play Christian, so why not join in on the fun. You can vote for your favorite at the top of this page. Poll ends November 30, 2012.
My choice is obvious.
There are some Matt Bomer fans who feel he shouldn't accept the part if it is offered. Some feel that it wouldn't be good for his career or that the part isn't a good fit for him. Please feel free to leave a comment. Should Matt Bomer portray Christian Grey?
As much as I adore Matt Bomer as a person and an actor (and love his character "Neil Caffrey" in the outstanding "White Collar"), I would not want him to be in a movie version of "Fifty Shades of Grey": Matt is too intelligent and too good an actor and right now the book is dreadful. If -- and this is a big 'if' -- a screenplay were made that was excellent (and explored the multiple layers of the characters and had great dialogue) AND had an outstanding director (i.e., Soderburgh et al, who could get beyond the surface 'porn' and shallowness of the book), that's the only way I would want Matt to make a choice to do a movie like that. He's so much better than that. Yes, Matt is sexy and can convey depths to his characters, but I'd prefer he make really intelligent choices in his movie roles. I'd go see anything that he's in, but even though he's the sexiest male star on TV or in movies today, "Christian Grey" is not the right role for him. Matt can play "dark", but he's also sweet and he's way too intelligent to take part in a shallow film unless a top-notch director and screenwriter were involved.
ReplyDeleteSuch a very inteligent coment! So much has been said about Matt playing C.G. and I never had read such a well explained opinion. I wanted to see Matt as C.G. because I want to see everything that Matt does, and I so much wanted him to be on a staring role (I even watched Texas Massacre!...!), and because I know that he is gay, the more I want to see him fulfilling my fantasies of seeing him with a woman, so I can picture myself there. He is so damn handsome it hurts! But I guess you're right, he is too intelligent for that movie. By the way, I read that Alex Pettyfer was cast for that role. Don't know if it's the real thing though.
